Heater not always coming on?

I have a new hot tub, it's a month old from Laguna Bay Spas. Here's what I'm seeing, heater works, water gets hot. After several hours of not using the tub, like going out in the morning, I'll open the cover it will say 102-107. I kick on the main pump, (which is the one attached to the heater), and the temp will drop to mid 90's. The tub is cooling off but the temp at the thermometer is staying high. Seems like it is cycling the heater on before the pump or something. I called the company, and they sent me a new spa pack, (controller board) and I have put it in, but I get the same thing.

So when you open the cover is it a thermomater you are reading or the display on the topside panel? When it drops to mid 90's is the heat indicator on when pump is running? Do you know where the temperature sensor is located on the spa, heater, inline plumbing, or in the spa where you sit?

This is the electronic thermometer on the display. I don't have a floating one in the tub. I have no idea where that is located. I got the impression from LB that the thermometer is in the heater or attached to it.

You say it is cooling off the mid 90's, is that what the display shows when you turn on the pump? Does the heater indicator come on when you turn on pump? How many amps is your house breaker rated for?

Well if that is the case and the heater is ran through the main pump then that is a problem. You should talk to the manufacturer, the pump should always come on first before heater to prevent it from burning up. There also should be a flow or pressure switch in line or on the heater to monitor the water flow going through heater. Too low of flow and the heater should not come on, therefore heater should not come on before heater.

I just talked to the service manager, and he is sending me a new chip to go into the spa pack. This will make the pump stay on after the heater has shut off. The pump was turning off before the heater.

So it was a program issue with their computer chip. That is good news for you and glad to hear that they are backing their product. Thank you for the update, this is good information.

I was curious if this solved you issue? I just purchased a Laguna Bay Spa as well anhave noticed that the spa does not maintain the water temperature that I have set it at. I have the X5 model. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Yes this was resolved by the computer chip logic.
