I have a spa with Balboa Vs501Z unit I installed about 4 years ago along with new circ pump. Power surges are common with bad winter weather, Spa started throwing GFI breaker, replaced the heater element and cured that problem. Then on start up, all goes well, priming, etc until heater switched on the spa shuts down after 5 seconds or so.
Error code I get a Dr code. Tried powering down multiple times no success. No spa techs where I live, remote location, so I have made many repairs. I am inclined to repalce the circuit board next.
I have excellant water flow with no air bubbles.
Just repaced both sensors.

Is the circulation pump coming on when you start up or is it the main pump coming on? If the circ pump is coming on and good water flow try removing the filter to see if the DR clears. If not and sensors are new and good water flow then yes may be the circuit board causing the issue.

Circ pump comes on, goes into prime mode, just REPLACED circuit board, same problem! Can it be the topside control? Is that possible? I am really stumped on this one. Help!

I have never heard a topside causing this. It is usually the pump, circuit board, or sensors if good water flow.

I concur. The heater light comes solid for a short time, the rapid flickr, followed by DY code. Is there any way to check the sensors? I bought a new pair so now have two pairs. I removed the filter as well. I will check the circ pump but "see" very good flow in the spa. I have a Aqua Flow Circ master pump, looks like the impeller assembly can be diassembled for inspection. Any other ideas?

What location on the circuit board do you have the circ pump plugged in to and what are the 10 dip switches at bottom of board set at?

Circ pump plugged into J47
DP Switched 2 and 9 set to "up" position, reamainder, 1, 3-7, and 10 set to "down" position

On the VS501 you want the number 5 up too. Number 2 needs to be off or down. If using the 4 button oval panel number 3 needs to be on or up too. Make sure power is off before moving these switches.

then you can leave number 3 off if the rectangle panel.

That is the correct sensor, what you can try is switching the two sensor at the circuit board, plug A into B and B into the A position on the board. Sometimes by switching them it will work.
