Unfortunately it sounds like it may be time to invest in a new spa cover. I think this will continue to happen over time. We use a state of the art exclusive vacuum heat sealing process on our foam core. This gives you years of use. When your cover foam gets saturated you loose the insulation value as well as breaking your back trying to remove it. New foam has small little air pockets in the foam that acts like the insulation barrier, when the foam gets saturated these fill with water and then provides no insulation value.

My hot tub was working great all year until around christmas, i left on vacation for about a week and when i returned home i had lost a lot of water, the water dropped below the point that i was no longer able to suck the water in when it was on its heat/filter cycle. When i checked it the pumps still worked and no major damage, i was wondering what would cause this major water loss? (pretty sure there is not a leaking line)

Can be used alone or in conjunction with a mineral purifier and/or ozone generator. As a stand alone sanitizer the chlorine levels should be a little higher 4-5 ppm than if it is being used with a mineral purifier and/or ozone. 3-4ppm is all right when used with mineral purifiers and/or ozone generators. It is in a granular form and dissolves almost instantly. Popular with customers who use their spas several times a week.

Bromine. Can be used alone or in conjunction with a mineral purifier and/or ozone generator. As a stand alone sanitizer the Bromine levels should be a little higher 4-5 ppm than if it is being used with a mineral purifier and/or ozone. Bromine can be in a granular or tablet form. The tablet form takes longer to dissolve and raise the Bromine levels. Sodium Bromide is often added to the water to help speed up the dissolving rate of the tablets, and increase the Bromine levels quickly. Popular with customers who use there spa maybe once a week.

Leisure Time. A brand of portable spa chemicals.

Nature 2. A brand of Mineral Purifier. Cannot be used alone. Must be used with either Chlorine or Bromine. It acts as a secondary sanitizer and will allow for the Chlorine or Bromine levels to be at the lowest level of the ideal ranges, 3-4ppm. Ozone or shock helps stimulate the release of the zinc and silver ions in the purifier stick. Zinc is good for preventing algae and molds, silver is good for killing or damaging bacteria and viruses.

There should be a label on the pressure switch, I show they use a switch from TecMark. There should be the TecMark part number on it. Maybe you can email me a digital picture of your old switch?

Yes you can replace. First turn off the breaker to the spa so there will be no power going to it. Close slice valves if you have them going to the heater so you don't need to drain the water down. Remove the wires to the pressure switch and unscrew it from the spa heater manifold. Install new switch by threading back into heater manifold. You can use a little teflon tape on the threads. Reconnect the wires to switch and open slice valves, or fill back up if you do not have shut off valves. The part number for the switch is 2-3902 or simply follow the links I set up on the blue word pressure switch.

The sleep mode will keep the spa temperature within 20 degrees of your set temp but will only heat during the filter cycle if it goes 20 degrees below. There is also a freeze protection which the pump would have been activated automatically if the temp drops below 42 degrees.

Thanks Mary.

The Balboa SpaPac came from you folks with no paperwork of any kind.

I would like a manual.

In speaking with my son just now after resetting the tub,(it went down to 63 degrees over the weekend in the freezing temperatures)it seems that my eight year old granddaughter was messing with the buttons when she was in the tub last week(which is when the problem started) Had I in my possession a viable reference guide, I would have solved a lot of problems and saved quite a bit of aggravation. You folks just lost your Gold Star.

Time to call Brian/CustServ at your office to get a manual.

Well, in that this NEW Balboa spa pack came with no manual and none is available at either Hottubworks or Balboa Instruments, I'm rather distressed. I have Tub getting colder and colder in freezing weather in a snowstorm. The balboa instruments site says that the unit is in 'sleep mode', and to just change it back to normal...without a manual it's rather difficult. I myself never put it into sleep mode and didn't even know there was one. The actual temp is now in the 60's(F) and with both companies asleep for the weekend I can see it's going to be a race to see if I can get an answer before the tub has to be emptied to avoid a rupture. I've tried cutting power to enable a reboot to no avail. Suggestions?

It is a very good possibility that the control panel is malfunctioning, even though you repaired the wires. The wires are so small that it can be difficult to get a good connection.
What is the actual water temperature in your spa? I am trying to determine if your heater is actually working and maybe the indicator is not coming on due to the wires be chewed through.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I remember, on 2 or 3 times/hour for a few minutes each time. I never suspected the new motor/pump was causing it, I just wanted to mention that it was just replaced. The digital desplay is showing the temp, no error codes. I need to dig around in my files and find that manual. Maybe there's a reset sequence I can try or a series of entries to display any error codes. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

Is the water isolated to one side of the spa? Does it drain down to a certain point and then stop? If the leak is located in the foamed area of the spa it will not be easy to locate. You will need to remove the side panel and locate the saturated foam. If there is no sign of water once the panel has been removed you can probe the foam using a wooden dow rod for signs of water. Once you locate the leak you will need to remove the wet foam, replace whatever it is that is leaking, and then refoam.
You can try and get a plumbing diagram from the manufacturer Cal Spas. Not sure if they will provide one but wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yes it can be replaced. In the control load box there may be a wiring diagram. You will have a high limit sensor as well as a temperature sensor. You need to locate which one is the temp sensor from the wiring diagram. It should show you where it plugs into the circuit board. Follow those wire to the sensor. Sometimes you will have both the temp and high limit on the heater. Other times you will have the high limit on the heater but the temp sensor head will be mounted in the spa somewhere to monitor the water temperature inside the spa.

Is the actual water temperature 62 degrees like the display goes back to? Are there any other codes coming up on the display other than EC?

It should come on every 30 minutes and run for a couple of minutes. They use this function to monitor the water temperature. The new pump should not be causing this, it is only running due to being supplied power from the circuit board. It sounds more like a programming or circuit board problem. Are there any messages on the control panel display?

Hi Mary,

I replaced the pressure switch and the filters. The spa works right after I turn the breaker on but after a cycle it goes back to the "FL" mode. Any ideas? Thanks..........Doug

I appreciate the manual, I have run the spa for a day and a half and it is not heating either in standard or EC mode, I do not see the heat light coming on in the control pad. Any ideas?

ok that makes sense. It sounds like you may be having a temperature sensor problem. Usually when the readout does not match what the actual water temperature is it is the temperature sensor causing the problem.
