I just bought this used coast spa and already have a bad feeling about it. When I start the spa up, the cover and lock ring instantly blow off. I inspected the lock ring for cracks but didnt find anything. Any suggestions on what to try?

What cover are you referring to, is it the filter lid and lock ring?

yes, the filter lock ring and cap.

yes, I even opened up the air valve. My old Marquis spa would run without the filters in it. I dont have a filter for it yet. Could that be the issue?

It almost sounds like the filter is plumbed in backwards. It should be sucking the water into it, not blowing it out in the other direction. The suction on the pump is the center opening in the front of the pump and discharge is the opening at the top or pointing in a side postion.

Could the pump possibly be wired wrong and running backward? It does have a brand new pump installed that the seller said had never been run. The filter canister looks to have a inlet and outlet line. It doesnt skim the water per say. The filter is sealed so Im guessing it pumps one way and sucks the other but maybe Im wrong. It really blows the water out hard

If it were wired wrong it wouldn't run backwards it would buzz or the low and high speed would be reversed. It almost sounds like they may have the suction and discharge on pump backwards. It should be drawing in from filter not blowing out.

Thank you for the update, that is what it sounded like it was backwards.
