View Full Version : 2000 Cal Spa (No Heat)

I was recently given a 2000 Cal Spa Jacuzzi (not sure of a specific model)by a friend (it worked fine last time he turned it off). It has a panel on top that says GE electric, and the board says Balboa Instruments 2100 wiring system. There was a rat that got under it and chewed two or three of the small wires, which I have fixed. I filled the tub, the jets work, the blower works (on the option button), and the lights work fine. There is a little green light on the panel for suction safety mode which light up. But when I hit heat it starts at 100 and goes up to 104, blinks several times then goes back to 62 and blinks EC. Anyone have any idea what this could be? (The heat light indicator on the top panel is not lighting up either). Any help would be appreciated.

EC stands for economy mode. Usually you will have a standard mode and a economy mode. When the spa is set in economy mode it will only heat during its set filter cycles. In standard mode it will heat on demand. So you need to verify how often your spa's filter cycles are set if at all. I am going to include a link for the owners manual showing you what these codes mean and how to program the filter cycles.

I appreciate the manual, I have run the spa for a day and a half and it is not heating either in standard or EC mode, I do not see the heat light coming on in the control pad. Any ideas?
Is the actual water temperature 62 degrees like the display goes back to? Are there any other codes coming up on the display other than EC?

No, no other codes have shown, but the heat light is still not coming on, could there be a logic problem? What would I look for or how could I diagnose that?
Do you know what the wire that the rat chewed up went to? Did they go to the control panel (http://www.hottubworks.com/SpaParts/CabinetSides.php)or one of the sensors (http://www.hottubworks.com/SpaParts/HeaterSensors.php)?

It went to the control panel, I have fixed that wire, do you think it may have shorted something?
It is a very good possibility that the control panel (http://www.hottubworks.com/SpaParts/CabinetSides.php) is malfunctioning, even though you repaired the wires. The wires are so small that it can be difficult to get a good connection.
What is the actual water temperature in your spa? I am trying to determine if your heater (http://www.hottubworks.com/SpaParts/HeaterComplete.php) is actually working and maybe the indicator is not coming on due to the wires be chewed through.

The actual temp is 62. I am going to test the element for resistance or connectivity.
I don't think your heater element (http://www.hottubworks.com/SpaParts/HeaterElements.php)is the problem. It sounds like you are not getting a call for heat and that may be due to the control panel malfunctioning.
